Change from Guest Card to Student Guest Card

Our new card in the cashless payment system is the Student Guest Card. It is a payment card without personal data that is meant for students who have a BlueCard or FH Card without payment function.

By showing the valid student ID, Student Guest Card holders pay the student price. Until 1 March this was also possible with the Guest Card but due to food subsidization regulations we introduced the separate payment system for students.

Where do I get the Student Guest Card?

The card can be bought at the Student Guest Card terminals for 2 euros deposit (plus 3 euros minimum loading amount). The terminals are installed in Mensa Academica, Mensa Vita and the dining halls of FH Aachen.

Where and why do I have to present my student ID?

In order to receive a subsidized meal (1,80 € to 3,90 €) at student prize, the student ID must be presented. Other meals, e.g. at the special counters on the ground floor of Mensa Academica, cost the same for students and non-students. There, the presentation of the student ID is not necessary.

Due to accounting processes the Student Guest Card had to be introduced. There are neither advantages nor disadvantages in using the card. Just like the Guest Card, the Student Guest Card is not personalized – therefore presenting the student ID is compulsory.

Switching deadline 1 March 2016

The definite change from Guest Card to Student Guest Card will be on 1 March 2016. From this date on, it will not be possible anymore to pay the student price with a Guest Card and the fee of 1,50 euros must be paid even if the card holder has a valid student ID. Therefore, all students who are enrolled at universities in Aachen and are currently using a Guest Card should buy a Student Guest Card by 1 March or get a BlueCard/FH Card containing a chip.

Topping up the card

The card is loaded with cash at the terminals. The Student Guest Card terminals only take bank notes and no coins.

Returning the card

The Student Guest Card can be returned at the Infopoint of Studierendenwerk. The deposit of 2 euros will be refunded if the card is fully functional and has no defects.

Refund of the balance

The balance on Student Guest Cards is refunded at the Infopoint.

Guest Card for non-students

External guests who are not entitled to eat at student prices can, of course, still use the Guest Card. In the dining halls of FH Aachen they are available at the cash registers. There, the card balance plus deposit amount are also refunded.
