The "butterflies" have flown out

Where students' bicycles used to be parked, there are now bobbycars, tricycles and scooters - and there's a reason for that: in Mattschö-Moll-Weg, two student flats in one of the neighboring residential buildings have been renovated into a spacious daycare area for the "butterflies" (20 children) of the daycare center Pusteblume.

The renovation enabled 16 new places to be created and four to be moved out of the overcrowded groups in the main building. The new rooms are located right next to the actual facility, which simplifies the interaction between all of the Pusteblume's educators and children.

After receiving the renovation permit in October, the Construction and Facility Management Department worked at full speed on the remodeling. In particular, the energetic workshop employees of Studierendenwerk showed great commitment in order to be able to meet the planned move-in date in mid-January. And it turned out great: The two apartments on the first floor, each offering 65 square meters of space, were connected via the hallway and now form an open area. The children's checkroom and the staff rooms are located in the basement - like everything else in the new group rooms, this area is also very spacious.

The list of renovation measures was extensive: All floors were renewed, even walls were removed to create larger common areas. All rooms, including the door frames, were given a light painting, which makes the rooms look friendlier and provides the best contrasting surfaces for the little ones' colorful handicrafts. For a daycare center, however, there are also certain structural requirements. These include, for example, additional emergency exits, escape routes and sanitary facilities suitable for children. It is also important to have an alarm system at the entrance to ensure the safety of the children. But the renovation work did not stop there: New kitchens had to be built, technical lines laid and modern radiators installed. In addition, the outdoor area of the main building had to be easily accessible - a small gate now allows the "butterflies" to fly to the swings, sandbox and muddy area as quickly as possible.
