Dinner in the dining hall

As from October, students can have dinner in the dining hall: Studierendenwerk extends the opening hours of the main dining hall on Pontwall and of Mensa Eupener Straße.

The increasing number of students also means more customers in the university dining halls: Only in Mensa Academica on Pontwall more than one million meals were served in 2017 – the highest number of meals served ever. Usually up to 600 students eat in the dining hall, most of them within the time frame between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.

Now new opening hours will ease the situation: Mensa Eupener Straße on the FH Campus is going to be open until 6 pm, Mensa Academica even until 8:30 pm. “We respond to the request of many students who would like to have dinner in the dining hall. It is also our goal to ease the peak times around noon – that is going to be a relief for all customers!”, Dirk Reitz, Studierendenwerk CEO, explains the decision.

The Administrative Board agreed on a test phase of one year for two dining halls in order to be able to determine the actual demand. For compensating the increased number of staff needed all dining halls, cafeterias and coffee bars will close at 3 pm on Fridays and on days before public holidays. In addition, all dining facilities and offices remain closed on bridge days in 2019.

The new opening hours in Mensa Academica apply as from 8 October. Customers can then enjoy burgers, pasta, pizza, wok and grill dishes until the evening. Two of the subsidized dishes (stew and vegetarian meal) are also going to be available. Mensa Eupener Straße already extends its opening hours with the FH semester start: On 24 September.
