30th Poster Competition: Why should I study?

The topic of the 30th poster competition organized by Deutsches Studentenwerk (DSW) is the big question “Why should I study?”. Students of Graphic Design, Communication Design and Visual Communication can participate and answer this question in form of a poster by the end of January 2016.

On its 30th poster competition DSW wants to know: What do you expect from studying, what motivates you to go to university? Is it the subject? Dealing with a specific topic that fascinates and interests you? How important are carrier as well as income and promotion prospects after an academic education? Do you follow your parents' advice or not? Is it the subject that makes you want to go to university or rather student life, freedom and self-realization?

The prize is 5.500 euros in total. A five-person jury decides on the distribution. Moreover, the 30 best posters will be on an exhibition touring throughout Germany.

For the first time, posters can be handed in online. After the jury has agreed on a preliminary selection, the best posters will be awarded prospectively in March 2016.

Participants can sign up by 4 December 2015 via the online form “Why should I study?”: http://dswurl.de/warumstudieren

The competition is supported by the Ministry of Education and Research. The Museum for Communication Berlin is a cooperation partner.

Since its foundation in 1987, the competition has vastly developed. The topic of the very first competition was “Mensa – Fachhochschulen gestalten Umweltschutzplakate - Dining hall – Universities create environmental protection posters“. 30 students from three universities handed in 37 posters. In the last competition, the 29th, 378 design students from 34 universities participated with 640 posters in total.
