Studierendenwerke: No room for antisemitism

- Student unions organizations acknowledge their responsibility to take action against all forms of antisemitism
- Resolution of all student unions at the general meeting of Deutsches Studierendenwerk on 6 December 2023 in Berlin
Berlin, 6 December 2023: The 57 student unions organized in Deutsches Studierendenwerk (DSW) are clearly opposed to any form of antisemitism, including in their facilities such as dining halls, halls of residence, BAföG offices, advice centers or daycare centers. At the DSW General Assembly on 6 December 2023 in Berlin, the student unions unanimously adopted a resolution on this issue.
It states: "There must be no place for antisemitism at Germany's universities. The 57 student unions in Germany and their association, Deutsches Studierendenwerk, also stand for this. We accept our responsibility to take action against all forms of antisemitism in our facilities - dining halls, halls of residence, BAföG offices, advice centers and daycare centers."
The resolution in full:
"The Hamas terror attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 is a breach of civilization. Nothing can justify Hamas's almost incomprehensible atrocities. Our solidarity and sympathy go out to the victims, the hostages and their families.
In Germany, we are currently experiencing incidents that we cannot and will not accept: Blatant threats against Jews, physical violence, the display of antisemitic posters or graffiti and rallies that condone the terror of Hamas and question Israel's right to exist. The state and all citizens are called upon to oppose this.
We are shocked to see that Jews feel increasingly unsafe on campus. There must be no place at Germany's universities for antisemitism. The 57 student unions in Germany and their association, Deutsches Studierendenwerk, also stand for this. We accept our responsibility to take action against all forms of antisemitism in our facilities - dining halls, halls of residence, BAföG offices, counseling centers and daycare centers.
At the same time, the student unions emphasize that they also see the suffering of the Palestinian civilian population. There must be room in our society for the despair and grief of the Palestinians. Our sympathy goes out to all civilian victims. We also oppose anti-Muslim racism.
We call for respectful coexistence so that everyone on campus can feel safe."
