Ministry appoints Jörg J. Schmitz

Jörg J. Schmitz, CEO of Kölner Studierendenwerk, was appointed temporary CEO of Studierendenwerk Aachen by the Ministry for Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia. This follows the decision of the Administrative Board of Studierendenwerk Aachen last week, which had asked Schmitz for support. The appointment by the ministry took place on 15 August 2020 and is limited until the end of November 2020.

After the withdrawal of the former CEO Dirk Reitz, Jörg J. Schmitz will temporarily continue the business of Studierendenwerk Aachen. With the appointment, the ministry is advocating a temporary but reliable support of high professional competence.

Schmitz, who got a degree in ergonomics, is very familiar with the issues in the student services sector: Since 2014, he has been managing the Kölner Studierendenwerk with 640 employees. In 2018, Schmitz's contract with Kölner Studierendenwerk was extended for another five years.

Already on 1 December 2020, there will be a arrangement for the further appointment of the management. "Of course, we are striving to fill this important position in the long term for the university location Aachen", emphasizes Dr. Swantje Eibach-Danzeglocke, Chairwoman of the Administrative Board. The new temporary CEO is to take the necessary steps, in particular in close coordination with the Administrative Board.
